Falkland Islands Fire & Rescue.

The Falkland Islands Fire & Rescue Service is the Falkland Islands Government's emergency fire service, operating from Stanley with a handful of full-time officers and a retained crew of volunteers. Covering a territory of rough camp tracks, peat and stone runs where conventional fire appliances cannot follow, the service has always leaned heavily on Land Rovers, and its front-line fleet mixes full-size Scania and Sabre appliances with 4x4 Defenders and even a tracked Hagglunds BV206.

Rescue 1, fleet number F1946, is a Defender 130 crew cab fitted with a bespoke box rescue body with roller-shutter lockers, a roof gantry carrying a light mast, ladder and equipment stowage, and a front-mounted winch. It is the service's dedicated first-response vehicle for road traffic collisions, carrying hydraulic extraction (cutting and spreading) equipment, and wears the service's fire-red livery with a yellow waist stripe, rear chevrons and the Falkland Islands Fire & Rescue Service crest. Photographs from 2009 show it then a fairly recent addition to the fleet, parked at the Stanley fire station alongside the service's older Land Rovers.

The service also runs a second Land Rover appliance - the older F1512 'Firefly', a 130 with a 440-litre water tank - and issues each full-time officer a winch-equipped 'fire Land Rover' as a first-response unit, making the type central to firefighting on the islands to this day.
