The record
Livigno sits at 1,800 metres in a high valley of the Lombard Alps, reachable from Italy only over the Foscagno pass, and its municipal police — the Polizia Locale of the Comune di Livigno — spend half the year working in snow. A Defender 90 station wagon is the vehicle for that: short enough for the village streets, four-wheel-drive for the passes, and here fitted with a front guard against the accidents a winter road produces.
The livery is the standard of Italian municipal forces, white with a broad green band carrying POLIZIA LOCALE and the commune's name beneath, with blue beacons on the roof. The flat bonnet places the vehicle before the Puma-engined Defenders of 2007.
