Alongside its shelter-bodied signals trucks, the Danish Army used the plain 109-inch Series III station wagon for command work. Fitted out as a 'commander's caravan' — the army's term for a mobile command post — the ten-seater's rear became a radio office with a DA/VRQ-282 and a DA/GRC-420 VHF set, an Eberspächer D4LS heater to keep it habitable in a Jutland winter, and a full-length roof rack for the tentage and kit that a headquarters carries with it. The photograph shows it late in its life, in the three-colour camouflage of olive, black and sand applied to Danish vehicles from the 1980s, with the front panel painted black, a spare wheel on the bonnet, the registration stencilled on a sand patch on each front wing and carried on black plates, and a bare steel front bumper with stacked military bumperettes at each end. The Series III commanders' vehicles were replaced by the Mercedes-Benz 240GD/28 in the early 1990s. Engine, build year and how many station wagons were converted are not stated in the source.
