ARB 4x4 Accessories

ARB began in 1975 as a one-man operation in a Melbourne driveway. Anthony Ronald Brown, after experiencing the limitations of off-road equipment during a trip to Cape York in a Land Rover, decided to design and build more reliable, rugged gear, starting with hand-made roof racks and bull bars. The business was registered as ARB Engineering Pty Ltd in 1976, its initials being the founder's own, and in the same year moved from Brown's home to a 93 square-metre workshop in Ringwood, Victoria.

The company was floated on the Australian Securities Exchange in 1987. That year it acquired the Roberts Diff Lock, which it developed and marketed as the ARB Air Locker, a pneumatically actuated locking differential; in 1988 it bought Old Man Emu suspension. The head office and manufacturing moved to a 16,723 square-metre facility at Kilsyth, in Melbourne's outer east, which remains the company's base.

ARB's Land Rover products include the Deluxe bull bar for the Defender 90, 110 and 130, winch-compatible, and Air Locker units for the Rover 24-spline axle such as the RD128, alongside snorkels, roof racks and BASE racks, compressors, drawers, rooftop tents and Old Man Emu springs and dampers. The company celebrated fifty years in 2025 with a series of anniversary expeditions across Australia, Africa, Mongolia, Europe, the United States and the Middle East.

By 2020 ARB had about sixty locations in Australia and export markets in the United States, the Middle East and Europe; from 2021 it added factory-backed accessory partnerships with Ford for the Ranger, Everest and Bronco and a supply agreement with Rivian. Its social channels and stores trade under the ARB 4x4 Accessories name.
