Description
The equipment set Marshalls fitted to 72 Series IIA 109 GS Land Rovers for 22 SAS in 1968: four fuel tanks totalling 100 gallons, heavy-duty chassis and suspension on sand tyres, front and rear GPMG mounts, an anti-tank weapon stowage, smoke-grenade dischargers front and rear, SLR rifle boxes in the wings, a wing-mounted tyre bead breaker, sand ladders, jerry can and water can carriers, water bladders, a sun compass and searchlights, plus front-mounted spare wheel and axle guards. Doors, windscreen and roof were removed; the vehicles were delivered bronze green and painted pink for desert service.
Applied to 72 new FV18064 3/4-ton GS 109s; the concept was carried forward by the Series III and 110 desert patrol vehicles
Rarity. 72 vehicles converted in 1968; about 20 survive and change hands at GBP 47,250 (Bonhams 2019) to GBP 64,995 (dealer asking price), with the fittings only available on those cars.
