The record

Mr Whippy is the best-known soft-serve ice cream brand in Britain, sold from franchised vans since the late 1950s. Where the customers are on the sand, a franchisee needs four-wheel drive, and G461 BJO is a Defender 110 registered in 1990, one of the first Defender-badged vehicles, fitted with a box ice cream body behind its standard cab: light blue above a cream waist, a raised front section over the cab rear with small windows and ice cream / mr whippy lettering and cone graphics, a large serving hatch and menu boards on the nearside, a winch in the front bumper for recovery from soft sand, and black steel wheels on sand tyres. It was photographed serving a beach below a rocky headland in April 2025, still in daily use at 35 years old. Its converter and operator are not recorded.

The registry's model keeps the Defender 110 cab and front and adds the box body, raised front section, serving window, lettering, winch and plates from the photograph.

AI rendering impression

An AI rendering impression starts from a 3D model of this vehicle, which an image model then paints into a scene. It is an artist's impression of the type, made to give a feel for the vehicle in its element — not a photograph, and not a record of any particular vehicle.

Proportions, fittings, markings, colours and the setting can all drift from the original in the process. For the vehicle's actual details, rely on the specification, the photographs and the cited sources on this page.
